Portland Monthly article about the Big Island
You are, indeed, correct, Sparkles. Once upon a non-recession time, we had a nonstop flight to SB but it was cancelled. Happily, Alaska is bringing it back, but not until June. It’s never too soon to start planning a visit, though, and we can help you with that: www.portlandmonthlymag.com/travel-and-outdoors/articles/santa-barbara-1210/.
I am a big fan of Baja, Mexico. Loreto is a beautiful place to visit. Protected islands to visit just 1 hr on a local’s boat for under $100 average/all day trip, you can snorkel, enjoy warm waters, sea whales, real deal street tacos, home made ice cream in the town, it is real-deal Mexico with plenty of services too boot..just wonderful.. not all over the top party central like Cabo.. which is more like L.A. nowadays. A local lady that was originally from the USA rents cute homes in the town. Super affordable to stay and right in the thick of town and a quick walk to the water. http://www.loreto.com/lynn/ I want to go!
I read that Alaska Airlines now has non-stop flights from PDX to Santa Barbara, CA. That’s always a nice and sunny getaway too.
Just FYI – That picture is of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk not the pier though you can see one from the other.
