Push yourself the entire 2.8 miles to both Triple Falls junction and into Oneonta Gorge for a hike with dramatic waterfalls, spectacular viewpoints and an incredible picnic spot overlooking Triple Falls.
ROUTE: Start from the base of 176-foot Horsetail Falls. Turn right at the intersection to Ponytail (Upper Horsetail) Falls for a couple hundred yards, then veer right onto the unmarked path for a striking peninsular viewpoint. Continue along the main trail, descending to the metal bridge over Oneonta Creek. At the trail junction, turn left to Triple Falls, then right to continue back down to the road, then right again and proceed along the road back to parking. Between the end of the trail and the parking lot is the bridge over Oneonta Creek—if you’re feeling adventurous, descend the stairs and head up the creek, climbing over the slippery logjam and wading through deep water to reach a hidden 100-foot waterfall.
DIRECTIONS: I-84 each to Exit 35. Turn left on the Old Scenic Highway and drive west to Horsetail Falls (falls on the left, parking lot on the right).
