You could repeat this loop every day from here until eternity, whatever the pace—whether walking or running—whatever the season, and always end up with a smile on your face. Feeling bushed? The trail is a steady sustained ascent, following the treacherous ridgeline section of Wildwood Trail (very muddy after heavy rains), and the elevation gain is steeper than you think.

ROUTE: Head up Lower Macleay Trail and turn right onto Wildwood Trail at the Stone House. Follow signs for Wildwood all the way as it gradually winds up the ridgeline, then flattens out for a wonderful stretch before passing a number of intersections. Turn right at Dogwood Trail, descend to Leif Erikson Dr, turn right and continue to the gate at NW Thurman St. Continue down to the NW 31st Ave bridge, then descend the stairs at the eastern end back to parking.

DIRECTIONS: Park at Lower Macleay lot, 2999 NW Upshur St.
