WITH HEAVY BASS BLARING and dark candelabras dripping with ghostly white wax, Moulé welcomed Halloween a few days early this year. The Pearl District store became a fashion coven where dangerously dark drinks were poured from crystal skulls and the candy was only the bloodiest of reds.
The models stomped down the runway with pale skin, their eyes ringed in grey shadows and just a touch of blood dripped from the corner of their lips. Yet, somehow all this ghoulish drama didn’t dare detract from the clothing. Although greys and blacks whirled down the runway with but a few splashes of sangrine colored tights and midnight blue silks, the fashion was not just for the gothically inclined.
The show was a mix of rocker chic with skinny black pants and cropped blazers along with girlish high-waisted flared skirts and hints of rosey hues and satin bows. The fashion forward Euro trend of the harem pant also made a quick appearance down the runway and a definite standout was the black, wool coat with gold hardware from store owner Rachel Gorenstein’s own label, Rachel Mara.
While some models were scantily clad and sheer blouses were bountiful, the most eye-catching moments of the runway were the jewels. Although the ever popular layers of chain hung from the models’ necks and chunky, metallic weaved bracelets wrapped most wrists, the latest trend of jeweled bibs and heavy hanging rhinestones made the boldest statement.
Although this is only the second show for Moulé, it was a seamless pairing of Gorenstein’s own label, Rachel Mara, and the long list of high end brands she carries. Moulé is making their mark on Portland’s fashion scene and we have the web exclusive slideshow to prove it.
