Day 13: Washington D.C.
As we headed to a show in Washington, this is what I imagined everyone would be dressed like based on my last trip to D.C. in 1992 and various films.

Day 15: Back to NYC
With the Helio boys recording a radio show I took off and instantly got lost in the Bronx before finally finding my way to SoHo for shopping fun. The tracks still have water lingering in the bottom from Sandy's aftermath.

Patricia Field's (stylist for Sex and the City ) shop of colorful insanity could entertain a 90's rave kid (or fashion editor) for hours.

After running around to Top Shop, Opening Ceremony, Oak, Patricia Field, Uniqlo, and many others we commenced the end of the official part of the tour with a tour of bars from SoHo to Brooklyn and this is the only photo to survive.

Day 16: Philadelphia
Back to Philly for two days of radio shows, I stumbled upon the flagship Anthropologie store. And it's just as pretty as you'd imagine. (Side note: You can't live there, I asked)

Hanging out in the studio for NPR's World Cafe while Helio records a session for next month. One day, I will lose my impulse control in the studio and just begin turning knobs.

Today I discovered Boardwalk Empire, downloaded a whole season on iTunes and lost two days of my life to 1920s prohibition gangsters.

Day 20: Thanksgiving - Pennsylvania
I'd been trying to convince everyone to visit Amish country when on Thanksgiving morning I came out of a gas station and this was coming up the street to me. I waved so hard I hurt my elbow. (They waved back!)

By a twist of luck, one of my best friends was in Dayton with his husband visiting in laws and they invited us over for the Turkey Day feast, followed by a night of karaokeing

Day 22: Laura Ingalls Country
In a massive blow to my childhood, the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum was closed for the season, so I had to settle on driving on her memorial highway. I also forced the boys to listen while I retold all my favorite Ingalls tales, pigs bladders and all.

It was 12 DEGREES in Minnesota. The cold froze your ligaments up so you walked like a robot and breathing in deeply is like being stabbed in the lungs with an icicle.

In possibly the most amazing stop of the tour we headed to Pioneer Village with the largest private collection of Americana from buggies to a full Pony Express station. This is the world's only public Amphicar from 1967 that is both a car AND a boat!
