The spectacular entry to landscape architect Michael Schultz's private garden.

The Green on Green Garden Tour, a benefit for the Portland Reading Foundation, is the rare garden tour that takes place in late summer instead of spring. You’ll be hard-pressed to find roses; instead, expect luxurious late summer flowers and foliage including tropicals, succulents, vines, and fascinating hardscaping features that could give you some new ideas for your own garden.

The six featured private gardens, all in North Portland, include an adorable urban plot with ingeniously designed spaces for chickens and veggies, two gardens designed by one of Portland’s premier, plant-focused landscape architects, a luxurious tropical hideaway, and more.

The day begins with a pre-tour continental breakfast at Garden Fever, where owner Lori Vollmer gives a talk on plants for the fall garden. This event is limited to 40 participants: sign up in advance to register.

Proceeds from the day’s events support the Portland Reading Foundation, a local organization providing a reading intervention program to primary school children.

Tickets are available online and at the following nurseries:
Oxalis Nursery, 1824 NW 24th Ave; Garden Fever Nursery, 3433 NE 24th Ave, and Portland Nursery's two locations - 5050 SE Stark St and 9000 SE Division St.
