War Witch, nominated for this year's Best Foreign Language Oscar, is a Canadian movie mostly filmed in the Democratic Republic the of Congo. Filmmaker Kim Nguyen has taken true stories of child soldiers in Burma and interwoven them into this harrowing on screen fairy tale that tells the story of Komona, a child soldier who, over the course of the movie, reads a letter about her own war-torn young life to her unborn child. Komona joins Magician, an albino child soldier, and the two attempt to forge a path together out of their violent-ridden pasts into a future of love and redemption. Rachel Mwanza, who plays Komona, won Best Actress at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and the Berlin International Film Festival, both in 2012. Also showing at Regal Lloyd Center on 2/8.
