Trevor Aaronson: The Terror Factory
With the nation's media focused on the current federal trial of Mohamed Osman Mohamud, the Somali-American student accused of conspiring to detonate a bomb at the 2010 Pioneer Square Christmas tree lighting ceremony, the release of Trevor Aaronson's book is both timely and relevant to Portlanders. Mohamud's case is one of many Aaronson analyizes in The Terror Factory, asserting that Mohamud's case, and hundreds of others like his, were the result of post-9/11 FBI and government entrapment functioning under the guise of counterterrorism. Aaronson is an investigative journalist whose recent work at the University of California, Berkeley has focused on the FBI's use of informants in U.S. Muslim communities. He is also the associate director and co-founder of the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting
