The Black Mozart of Cuba and
Le Mozart Noir are both documentary-style films that follow the life and music of Le Chevalier de Saint-George in the mid-late 1700s. Saint-George was a genius composer and conductor, accomplished fencer, and the first black general in the French army. Born to a Senagalese slave and a French nobelman, Saint-George's accomplishments were obscured from history after his death, primarily due to the efforts of Napoleon to erase his legacy. Only recently have his musical accomplishments been rediscovered and performed by orchestras around the globe.
