Showing as part of the Portland International Film Festival; awarded Best Screenplay Prize at the Venice Film Festival. French director Oliver Assayas's semi-autobiographical film follows a group of suburban Parisian youth in the early, still revolutionary 1970s. Aspiring young filmmaker/painter protagonist Gilles and his friends protest in the streets in violent clashes with police, but when their battles injure a security guard, Gilles leads a group to escape to Italy, where they have time for reflection and redirection. Also screening at Regal Lloyd Center on 2/21.
