A romantic comedy drama centering on Pat (Bradley Cooper), who has bipolar disorder and who, upon his release from a mental hospital, moves back in with his parents in Philadelphia. As Pat tries to in some way make sense of the life he left eight months earlier, he encounters so many stumbling blocks, we're almost certain he won't make it. At an awkward dinner party, he strikes up a relationship with Tiffany, who has multiple personal problems of her own, and the two stumble forward both separately and together toward healing and stability. With Robert DeNiro as Pat's dad and Jackie Weaver as his mom.
