Showing as part of the Portland International Film Festival. London-born director Lucy Mulloy's first feature film about three Havana teens who risk of their lives by escaping Cuba for Florida by boat won several awards at the Tribeca Film Festival, including
Best New Narrative Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Actor Awards for the two male leads in the film. Full of drama, tension and striking visual beauty, the movie's young stars were caught up in the real life story of their own pursuit of freedom when they were flown by the filmmakers to the U.S. in the spring of 2012, only to go missing upon their plane's arrival. When they resurfaced days later, they had indeed sought a lawyer to help them seek political asylum in the U.S. Also showing 2/21 at Regal Lloyd Center.
