Luz Elena Mendoza and Edna Vazquez: Juntas with special guest Leo
“I have come from afar, I suffered, I have struggled, but I’ve always been standing here to receive the hard knocks of life, tonight I come to impress you…. You will see, because I have talent, great talent.” -- Edna Vazquez on the Spanish-language talent show, Sábado Gigante, quoted in Portland Monthly in 2011.
Since her arrival on the Portland music scene, Vazquez has secured a loyal following among Latino and other fans of her emotional and sometimes tear-inducing delivery of traditional mariachi and boleros music. In a special night of music at the Alberta Rose Theater, Vazquez is joined by singer Luzelena Mendoza, who is also heavily influenced by traditional Mexican musical genres combined with her own traditional folk music upbringing and her punk rock roots. Musican Megan Mcgeorge opens the evening performing under the name Leo, playing a sophisticated and tender styling of chamber pop music inspiried by her mastery of the French horn, piano, and vocals.
