The Leni Stern African Trio brings together Stern's jazz and blues guitar talents with
djembe player Alioune Faye and bassist Mamadou Ba. Stern's musical past includes time studying at the Berklee College of Music and performances alongside
Paul Motian and Bill Frisell. Her current tour follows the completion of her latest CD,
Smoke, No Fire, to which Portland-born Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding lent her talents on several tracks.
Inspired by time spent in West Africa, specifically recently in Mali, the trio's sound is a cool fusion of jazz and rock blended with intoxicating rhythms of West African traditions.
