Crimes of the Heart
This award-winning production is the kooky story of three ne’er-do-well adult sisters reunited at the Magrath family home in Mississippi following a few mix-ups in their life paths. The oldest’s biological clock is ticking away while she cares for their grandfather, the middle is escaping a failed West Coast singing career, and the youngest is out on parole after shooting her husband because she “didn’t like his looks”. Once back at the family homestead, they begin to reestablish the sisterly relationship that had dissolved over the years. The play examines the importance of ties to family and community compared with the expectations of society as the girls struggle to restructure and continue on with their lives. It is a story of how the young can escape their past and move forward to the future, told in a light-hearted, hilarious, and touching manner. Sponsored by Kyra’s Bake Shop and Nicoletta’s Table.
