Werner Herzog travels deep into the heart the Siberian Taiga, a boreal forest and, specifically, a biome characterized by long, very cold, dry but snowy winters and short, mild to very hot (though rarely) summers. The movie spends most of its time in the 300-person village of Bakhtia, reachable only by helicopter or boat and without running water, telephone service, or hospitals. Herzog and his team follow one hunter-villager over the course of a year in this remote location, bringing to the big screen the daily, happy lives of present-day dwellers of this planet whose lifestyles have basically remained the same for centuries.
