Chervona: 7th Annual Russian Old New Year
One of the many changes following the Russian Revolution in 1917, was the change from the Julian to the Georgian calendar, pushing the New Year celebration ahead by two weeks. For the 7th year running, Local Gypsy-Balkan pink band, Chervona, invites you to Old New Year. This bawdy evening celebrates all things Russian with vodka-tastings, food, music and dances, and appearances by folktale staples, Baba Yaga and Snegurochka—the Snow Maiden, daughter of Spring and Frost. This year's special guests include: Flying Balalaika Brothers (Austin, Texas), Portland's own master of the button accordion, Leo Nosov, and late-night tunes provided by DJs Chkalov and Zhena.
