In 1961, Charlayne Hunter-Gault challenged segregation laws and became one of the first black students to enroll at the University of Georgia. She began her journalism career as the first black woman writer at The New Yorker, and she has continued to break barriers as an award-winning journalist for The New York Times, The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour. and CNN. This event is presented by Portland Community College as one of a series of events during Black History Month, and will begin with a reception for Ms. Hunter-Gault at the Oregon Historical Society from 5:30-6:30, before proceeding to the Fred & Suzanne Fields Ballroom at the Portland Art Museum.
