EVENT DETAILS
Thumbnail for - Caesar Must Die Showing in the Portland International Film Festival; winner of the Golden Bear (highest prize) at the Berlin Film Festival. Hailed for its ultimately very humanist message, Italian co-directors and brothers Paolo Taviani and Vittorio Taviani's film takes place in a Roman prison, and feature prisoners as actors. The inmates rehearse, and later in the film, perform, Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, and the movie explores the many themes that parallel the lives of the prisoners/men with their characters in Shakespeare's famous play. Paolo Taviani said upon his acceptance of the Golden Bear Award that he hoped moviegoers would "...say to themselves or even those around them... that even a prisoner with a dreadful sentence, even a life sentence, is and remains a human being."
