Winner of this year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Film and the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and nominated for four additional Oscars. The French movie tells the story of Anne and Georges, a married couple, both in their eighties, living in Paris. Anne suffers a series of strokes that leave her paralyzed with dementia and an inability to speak coherently. Georges becomes thrust somewhat irritably into the role of Anne's caretaker, and when she tells him she no longer wants to live, Georges must make decisions that no one ever anticipates they will have to face. A tearjerker of a film, to say the least.
