Riffle NW closes its doors after fifteen months of sustainable seafood service in the Pearl District.

UPDATE: Despite earlier reports from Portland Monthly, Northeast pasta spot Pasta Allegro has not closed permanently. According to owner Tammy Hobrecht, the space is "temporarily closed for some remodeling, long overdue repairs that previous tenants didn’t take care of, and experiments with some fusion ideas on our menu to keep things exciting." More beer here: Come November, the space that currently houses Spints Ale House will transform into Stammtisch, a new German beer hall project from Prost's Dan Hart. According to the Oregonian, the eat-and-drinkery will feature 15-18 rare German beers, real German schnapps, and a larger Bavarian-centric food menu that sister bar Prost. Micro sushi bar: The Beaumont neighborhood's newest addition, Daruma Sushi & Sake, debuted in the former Ristretto Roasters space this month, offering nigiri and no-frills rolls and a small selection of sake. The tiny 25-seat space is dominated by a central sushi bar made from reclaimed wood and an 8-seat communal table. Opening hours: lunch 11:30 am to 3 pm, dinner 5 pm to 9 pm, Monday through Saturday. 3520 NE 42nd Ave

A new wave: Northeast Glisan's micro-restaurant row The Ocean has a new team member. In September, the former Basa Basa location will become The Sudra, a vegan-friendly Indian fusion restaurant from Sonny Bowl's Sanjay Chandran. Tentative hours: 11 am to 11 pm, daily. 2333 NE Glisan St

Game migration: Chef Eric Bechard is relocating his Kingdom of Roosevelt (see our review), to make way for new neighborhood brunch spot Trinket. Check back for updates as they roll in. 2035 SE 39th Ave

Barwikowski, out: After two years helming Duane Sorenson's uber-successful Woodsman Tavern (read our review), chef Jason Barwikowski has left the SE Division kitchen. According to an official statement from the restaurant, Woodsman Market butcher Andrew Gregory, and pastry chef Nancye Benson "are planning the next phase of the Woodsman's evolution". Swimming with the fishes: The Pearl District's  sustainable seafood eatery Riffle NW has served its last fried fish bone. The fifteen-month-old restaurant shuttered on Wednesday, August 21 (founding chef Ken Norris departed the restaurant's kitchen in May 2013). In a public statement, owner Jen Quist promises "you will see us around town with a few new exciting projects on the horizon." 333 NW 13th Ave

Vote early and often: Martha Stewart's 2013 American Made small-business competition includes Portland nominees like Quin Candy, Tula Gluten Free Bakery, Petunia's Pies and Pastries, Brazi Bites, Kyra's Bake Shop, Bushel & Peck Bake Shop, Better Bean Company, Scratch and Grain Baking, and Cheery Pies. The people's choice winner is awarded $10,000 to help further their business, and you, the voting public can cast up to six votes per day until September 13.
