Bend craft beer fans, take notice: 10 Barrel Brewing Co. has announced plans to open a new brewpub in the Pearl District. Taking over the soon-to-close Mellow Mushroom Pizza location at 1411 NW Flanders, 10 Barrel is set to add itself to the growing ease of a great westside pub crawl.

Since 2008, the small Bend beer company started by two brothers has garnered widespread acclaim amongst beer advocates for an impressive rotating beer list and comfortable pub scene. The team opened a Boise location in 2013, and is ready to level up to the big city: “Portland is one of the most educated and innovative beer communities in the country, we know expectations are high” says co-owner Garrett Wales.

In anticiaption of a projected mid-summer 2014 opening, here are three 10 Barrel Brewing Co. beer picks worth getting excited about:

Apocalypse IPA

Arguably their flagship beer, the Apocalypse IPA is one of four beers 10 Barrel currently bottles and distributes across the Pacific Northwest. Hoppy, crispy, fruity, and pine-resiny, this IPA is the perfect beer to pair with a cheeseburger and fries on a warm summers day in Central Oregon—and will surely translate well to a Pearl District patio.

OG Wheat IPA

Citrus and grapefruit essence with a dirty blonde appeal, this wheat IPA is the tropical Caribbean in a bottle. Available by the bottle or on tap, the “Original Gangster” is a solid addition to any summer drink list.

The “Crush” Series

Too many to choose from here—the “Crush” series is 10 Barrels exploration of sour beers. Currently featuring a Cucumber Ale (yep), the series is made in the American Wild Ale style, and is not for the faint of heart. Strong in fruit (or vegetable) flavors, the Crush series holds the potential to win over the beer haters (or weed out the Bud lovers).

Mike Saw a Sasquatch Session Ale
