Look at all this fashion fun!

Kids Fashion Camp director (and the woman behind Portland Design Collective), Tacee Webb, has just sent updates that there are still a few spots open for the fashion camp for little ones. If you know a budding designer between 10 and 16 then get them signed up. The camp begins Monday, July 25th and goes through July 29th. The fun runs all day from 10am to 5pm and culminates in an evening fashion show on the 29th where you can see the results of a one week crash course in the design realm.

Who said fashion can only be for the young? This Saturday the Portland Design Collective hosts a fashion show with 84-year-old designer Elsie Bartling and her bridal collection. The show features 30 pieces Bartling created in the 1960’s through the 80’s all by hand using antique fabrics and patterns. Rumor is Bartling will be at the show for budding designers to get a word of advice or two.

If that wasn’t enough to entice you, designer Julia Barbee, from Frocky Jack Morgan, will also show a handful of companion pieces. And there is even a band playing called…wait for it…. Denim Wedding

Designer Barbara Seipp gets a well deserved hug.

On Saturday night a fashion crowd beyond the usual regulars gathered at the Portland Design Collective to see the Isaac Hers fashion show. It was the first solo show for the designer and in a city that has a million bands, shows and parties to compete with every night I thought the turnout was pretty good. The PDC is a gorgeous space and producer Jillian Rabe did an excellent job of putting together a smooth and professional show.

The runway extravaganza began with the spring collection fresh off from Open Season before getting into the promised and never before seen fall collection. The grouping, named Goldstruck, was inspired from Isaac Hers designer Barbara Seipp’s time in the Eastern Oregon desert with her family. Basic pieces like shift dresses, tailored jackets and mid-length skirts walked down the runway in sky-high Jeffrey Campbell heels with a video installation of rustic barns and desert scenes played in the background.

While I took objection to some of the styling for Isaac Hers Open Season show, it was right on point this time. The clothes themselves are pieces even a non-adventurous dresser would feel comfortable in. But, the styling took the easily sellable items up a notch into fancy sellable items with rich colors (black and camel together = love), fashion forward shoes and belts. The belts were little leather badges of cool and the first time Isaac Hers has had such pieces. They completely made the outfits for me and are officially added to my mental “must haves” list.

While I have always been more drawn to shiny silver things, designer Barbara Seipp is giving me a reason to lunge for gold. This weekend Seipp’s line, Isaac Hers will host the Goldstruck Fashion Show at the Portland Design Collective. Isaac Hers has been stepping into the light these days with an increased presence on the scene (most notably a showing at this month’s Open Season). This will be their first solo fashion show and judging by the collection’s photos, a successful first go at it.

The inspiration stems from the designer’s love for the Oregon high desert. Frequent trips to visit her family in the dryer part of our state have cultivated this love into a full collection. We’ll all have to head to the show Saturday to see what that translates into.
