Fats Opens Today
Killingsworth foodie kingpin Micah Camden debuts his fourth eatery.
If you ever doubted that NE 30th Avenue was the most serious contender to NE 28th Avenue’s restaurant row, you can put your doubts to rest today. Several hours ago, Micah Camden, the 30-year-old proprietor of Beast, Yakuza, and DOC, opened his fourth restaurant. Called Fats, this new venture anchors the southwest corner of NE 30th Avenue and Killingsworth Street in the space formerly occupied by Grolla.
By day, Fats serves a hearty brunch. After the Fourth of July weekend, the restaurant will open for dinner and late-night hours, serving British-style pub grub such as bangers and mash, fish and chips, and in true London form, chicken tikka masala. Camden says Fats will stay open until midnight or later.
Beaker and Flask opens tomorrow. What a fantastic week.

It all began with having a terrible Indian restaurant experience in the Bay Area… it was so horrifying that I stopped just reading yelp reviews, and began contributing to them. That led me to ‘meeting’ Suzanne F, a most witty and well-eaten Portlandian who soon became my friend. I used to live in NoPo in N Piedmont for years…. having moved back to the Bay Area recently, I also recently ate at Enotria in Sacramento and sampled their prix fixe menu…
which then led me to subscribe to Food and Wine mag….. this mo’s mag has your restaurant, Beast, as well as Beaker and Flask featured (as i’m sure you already know). then I became curious and got on the wweek site to check it out.. there you were all over again!!!
I wish you the best of luck with Fats, and i promise ya, when i’m next in town visiting the ol’ cronies, i’m gonna pop in and give that brunch a go, and stop my addicted patronage of either Waffle Window or Flavour Spot for waffles!
I find it creepy that one person owns 4 out of 6 restaurants in 1 block
is this place actually open, i have seen it open three times since for brunch and there were four people in there. what is the deal with this place?
i wish he owned every restaurant in the world!! ive had yakuza and fats both for the first time in the last week…. theyre so good!!!
As a native of Scotland, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that ‘Beans & Toast’ were an offering on the brunch menu but my comments concern my dinner experience. First of all, the waitress in the cute dress was great, attentive and polite. We ordered the Steak Wellington & mushroom pasty which was tasty albeit a little on the salty side at $18 a piece. But we were still inclined to come back. Then we received our bill which included 2 pints of beer for $16 & 2 glasses of wine at $18. So, our British Budgetary meal surprised us at $70 for 2 meals, 2 pints & 2 glasses of wine. A $9 glass of wine is not out of the realm although a bit pricey but $8 for a pint of beer seems overly priced. Perhaps the prices should be listed when you tout yourself as having a ‘budget menu’ as I’ve never paid for an $8 pint while I’m on a budget. As we awaited our bill, we considered returning for dinner and tempted to come back for brunch but I guess Micah Camden’s idea of a budgetary meal is a lot different from mine.
freedman..thanks for the comments. with your experience in mind we have made some adjustments for the better. we are commited to being an an affordable place to come and have great food and drinks. i hope you’ll come back soon and repost about your experience. look me up when you do.
