This Friday, Saturday and Sunday hold some fantastic garden-related events: you can buy quality native plants, train to identify invasive weeds, tour ten fabulous Naturescaped gardens, and – my favorite – learn about native pollinators at a seminar at the Zoo.
Xerces Society’s Pollinator Workshop
Friday May 14 from 9 – 3:30 Seminar at the Oregon Zoo (directions here)
This seminar will cover pollinators and pollinator conservation including native bee biology and identification and choosing plants and creating habitat to support pollinators around your home, garden or farm. Buddleia, a dangerous invasive! Nooooo! Oh please say it’s just the Davidii, must go to link now, with a sinking heart. . .
Yes, earth girl, it’s sad about the Buddleia davidii. My attraction to the plant disappeared when I saw it smothering plants along the train tracks to Seattle and growing in sidewalk cracks. BUT, other Buddleia species are not on the invasive plant list. How about a Buddleia loricata, with fuzzy, sage-like leaves and fragrant flowers or Buddleia globosa, with wild orange ball-shaped flowers?

I believe Taste Unique on Division has a seasonal asparagus risotto as well, which was very good. Also, Yuzu in Beaverton will wrap thin-cut ribeye around asparagus spears when they are in season – those are fantastic.
