Posters + Bikes. Could it get any more “Portland?”

A coordinated effort between Seizure Palace, popular poster artists, BikePortland.org and Oregon Manifest, the opening will feature libations from Deschutes Brewery, and donations to charitable org Bikes To Rwanda.

The following artists’ work will be on-view. Note posterer-to-the-stars Mike King, and Portland Monthly’s own Jason Blackheart!

Paper Girl

Paper Girl, an interactive performance and visual art project which began in Berlin, literally delivers art to the people, by collecting works of art, rolling them up, and throwing them from a moving bicycle, into any eager hands. The project, ushered into Portland last year by hipster-arts impresario Abe Ingle, will showcase the collection of works it plans to roll up and fling, tonight at Work/sound Gallery (820 SE Alder). Watch a demonstration of the concept, from the original Berlin bike brigade:

Hootin’ Annies!

Heads up, SantaCon. A red-and-white summer spectacle is hot on your heels.

Luckily, the sun came out yesterday for AnnieCon.

This was a packed weekend. A hundred-odd Portlanders played music at PDX Pop Now. Ten thousand or so folks played fairies at Fairieworlds. But a few scamps looking for levity, played Annie, in a conspicuous downtown pub crawl yesterday afternoon.

The first annual AnnieCon, riffing off the international winter flash-mob phenom SantaCon, challenged its participants to caricature the lovable orphan, then hit the bars for Hannigan-style shenanigans. With a modest but respectable turnout yesterday, the event hopes to grow. Says founder Goldie Davich (pictured, third from right), “I’ve always loved Annie so much. As a curly-haired kid, I wanted to be Annie, and I’ve never stopped wanting it. This is the culmination of a lifelong dream.” Jeez. Cue the string section.
