Moves Management
at North View Gallery
Today’s Monday Fun is less “ha-ha, tra-la-la,” than it is mind-bending and melancholy. Entitled Moves Manager , it’s the centerpiece of an art exhibit called Moves Management which will be featured at PCC’s North View Gallery starting March 31.
The guy in the suit is artist Evertt Beidler. He’s already gotten some love from RACC and OAC, and Culturephile has to agree: this thing—equal parts performance art, cyborg craft, and social-practice confrontation—is mad cool.
Moves Management will continue at North View Gallery throughout April. For more about Portland arts events, visit PoMo’s Arts & Entertainment Calendar, stream content with an RSS feed, or sign up for our weekly On The Town Newsletter!

Thanks for sharing this, Anne. Not quite an episode of “The Office.” I’ve had monotonous office jobs and would think of imagery similar to this, but how rad that he made that machine?!
I’m not in town to see the exhibit, but will the ‘machine’ be there for rides, or at least being used as part of the show? Or just cranking around town for promotional/ artistic purposes? Regardless, how surreal and cool…
Thanks, Gretchen!
I’ve forwarded your question to the artist.
Gretchen,
Thank you so much for your interest in my project! The “machine” (as I also refer to it) is on view but is not available for rides. In many ways Moves Manager is a wearable sculpture and all of the parts had to be tailored to my measurements in order for them to work properly. A harness (worn beneath my suit jacket) kept the two of us together during the performances. At some point I hope to be able to make some additional modifications to the machine that may include a crank or improvements to the mechanics that would enable anyone to ride Moves Manager. Thank you again for your interest.
Be well.
Evertt
