CULTUREPHILE: PORTLAND ARTS

tune in: television

Eat us, Portlandia!

Portlandia must be a glutton for Portland Monthly ’s punishment.

Well, Portlandia , you certainly got something right: You totally nailed the hipster emotional response. Portland Monthly ’s cool reception of your first effort , seems to have triggered a rabid hunger for our approval:

Well, today, you got it. We like you all right today. And around the PM office, this sketch elicited genuine laughs, instead of mere syllables that sound like “ha.”

What’s that? You have a thing at Hollywood Theater on Friday ? Well, I don’t know what I’m doing that day, but…I might try. Text me and remind me. You think you can put me on the list? I’m totally broke.

PS: Hey, I think I might recognize that guy from Baby Ketten Karaoke.

aha! i was curious what culturephile would think of this! it made me laugh and also shudder at similar interactions i’ve endured. stats pissing contests. they’re even worse (if possible) when they’re about musicians/bands/recordings, ugh.

i’m trusting you DO get to go to the show (and then write about it)!

Portland Monthly will most definitely benefit from the visibility of this skit, just like many businesses in our quirky little town will. If you read #Portlandia on Twitter today, you will see thumbs ups, LMOAs, and hahahas from viewers as far away as New Zealand and Shanghai (are the Chinese allowing Twitter usage?). Perhaps some of these fans will subscribe to PM.

The truth: Portlandia is just what our town needs, a revenue booster. Check out this article about the show: http://wp.me/p13mpW-4S

If you need someone to follow the money, just let me know. I am happy to investigate. Mayor Sam Adams is giving away a bird chair to the person with the best idea for increasing tourism. Go @MayorSamAdams!
