Everyone Loves Leftovers
It’s a slow news day. Let’s catch up!
Just a few short items today, drinking buddies.
ITEM: I was going to blog about my fab weekend road trip to Eugene to see the Pixies, but the only photo that came out was this one. Just to clarify, this is a roadside rest stop that we visited. It was pretty clean. By the way, the Pixies were stupefyingly good, and the concert kicked butt. A shout out to the drunk girls who got mad at us when we asked them to sit down so that we could see the show: You are awful people. Truly a waste of space.
ITEM: Discovered a great restaurant and bar in Eugene called The Vintage. Ask for the Cucumber Gin Fizz.
ITEM: I highly recommend the blog Toxic Cocktail, written by a hard-drinking local gal who has two primary concerns in life. Preserving the sanctity of our environment—and getting drunk. Right on!
ITEM: If you’re a dipsomaniac who loves to tell stories about your inebriated exploits, have we got an iPhone app for you. It’s called Drinking: the iPhone App for Drunks, and it’s a site where sauce hounds can leave timely tales about stuff they did whilst under the influence of the demon rum (or whatever). I don’t have an iPhone, so if someone who’s more technologically advanced than I am wants to take this puppy for a test drive, I’d be interested in hearing all about it.
Got any Portland bar/beer/booze news? Give me a holler.

Mmmmm, drunk girls at a Pixies show….always going to be trouble.
Anyone can buy a download of the tour recordings at http://www.doolittlelive.com/
A good time can be had by all, sans space wasting drunk girls.
Item: Where was Toxic Cocktail’s inputs when you were looking for Halloween cocktail suggestions? That Three Mile Island Iced Tea would have been perfect.
Item: Keep an eye out for the 2010 Eugene Cascades & Coast Visitors Guide, due out in mid-February. Eugene wine news will make you say “road trip” once more.
Item: There have been reports of a possible location to purchase gluten free porter, available from Merchant du Vin in Tukwila, Washington (near Seattle). Color me giddy.
Item: Thanksgiving is coming. You should start researching the best Turkey day cocktails. There have to be a few food pairing gems worthy of note, and I love the recipes that people send you.
Yay – glad Bex turned you on to the Vintage. Their ginger martini is pretty terrif, too.
@Driving Sideways: Thanks for the heads-up. My gluten-free girlfriend Sparkle thanks you too! Thanksgiving cocktail ideas? Me like. I will put my thinking cap on.
Re: T-day cocktails, I have two different sets of Jones Soda Thanksgiving soft drinks from years gone by. So if you want to add some vodka to a mashed potato and gravy or Brussels sprout soda pop, you’re good to go.
@Eric: Jackie Harvey? Never heard of him. I was mostly influenced by Carl Kolchak.
It’s a tribute to how great the Pixies show was that being pummeled in the kidneys by angry drunk girl’s knees on the back of my chair wasn’t a particular distraction. OK, it was a little distracting when she started jushing my hair. A simple “WHAT THE HELL!?” put a stop to that.
@JC: Have since found out the company in Tukwila WA is just a distributor. Not a retailer. But, I currently have an email into them asking where to get the GF porter. Will keep you posted. On the flip side, glad you like the Turkey Day cocktail idea. I’ll do some digging too.
My older sister had her college graduation party @ vintage. It’s not a huge space, but they made a wonderful little room upstairs for all of us.
Went to the Vintage for Valentine’s Day once for fondue with my girlfriend. The man at the table next to us proposed to his girlfriend. She accepted. Their table was silent for the following hour.
