Australia’s premiere dance company hasn’t made a stop in Portland for six years. In their absence, they have appointed a new artistic director—Rafael Bonachela, a Barcelona native and alum of London’s legendary Rambert Dance Company—who has cemented the company’s place as an international juggernaut.

2 One Another is an incredibly energetic and vivid work that showcases the dancers’ incredible athleticism. It’s also a completely riveting sensory spectacle, where the demanding choreography is paired with a pulsating LED matrix and a percussive, baroque-influenced electronic score composed by fellow Aussie Nick Wales. Combined with the slightly futuristic costumes, the video of the performance makes it feel like Battlestar Galactica On Stage.

Local presenter White Bird Dance’s Walter Jaffe told us, “This is all out dance,” and we believe it. It’s been a while, Sydney Dance Company—welcome back.
