If you're looking to put your feet up and relax outside, while keeping the kids entertained, look no further. Starting with the Kick-off Party on June 27th, Portland Parks and Rec's Summer Free for All Series promises a jam-packed schedule of music, movies, and playground activities—some verdant-set activity almost every night through mid-September.

The summer kicks off with a party on June 27 at Peninsula Park that includes musical theater, circus acts, a bouncy house, rock climbing wall, "penguin parade," arts and crafts, and a free showing of Madagascar 3

The wildly popular Series has plenty for adults too, featuring a lengthy roster of concerts in various parks around town. Some of this year's musical highlights include: Nancy King (July 23), Ashleigh Flynn (July 11), Brownish Black (July 22), Tony Starlight (July 12), and Dr. Theopolis (July 30) .

At the Washington Park Summer Festival (Aug 1-10), each day shakes things up with performances of dance, classical music, or opera, along with performances by bluegrass masters Black Prairie (Aug 6), vaudeville villains Vagabond Opera (Aug 7), and a tribute to the late legend Obo Addy (Aug 5)

The list of featured films includes modern crowd-pleasers and old-school standbys such as: Paranorman, The Goonies, Shrek, The Princess Bride, The Avengers, Casablanca, The Hobbit, and more.  For a change of pace, check out the Russian film Ivan Vasilievich Changes Occupation on August 29 (don't worry, there will be subtitles and a performance by Balkan rockers Chervona, on August 6). And for a truly immersive experience, Filmusik's presents Planet of Dinosaurs (Aug 17) with live performance of all dialogue, sounds effects, and music.

And it's all free!
