Since the 2004 launch of PDX Pop Now!, the volunteer-run, nonprofit organization has undoubtedly achieved their primary mission: exposing the public to Portland's best local acts, and catapulting those bands to national acclaim. The annual compilation is put together in a purely democratic fashion: songs are assembled through artist submissions, and then run through a rigorous blind listening panel of around 100 volunteers and board members. The result is that bands like Y La Bamba, which few had heard of before they submitted a song in 2008, rise to the top and go on to become local favorites and national touring acts.
PDX Pop Now! Compilation Release Party
On June 14, PDX Pop Now! celebrates the release of their 10th compilation, jam-packed with some of the best music Portland has to offer. The compilation features local favorites Wampire, Typhoon, Radiation City, Y La Bamba, and many more. Artists both featured in the compliation and performing at the album release party include: Sapient, Sean Flinn, Summer Cannibals, and Wishyunu.
In addition to supporting a good cause, you’ll also be the first to witness the unveiling of the 2013 PDX Pop Now! Festival Lineup. Watch for a story about PDX Pop's 10th anniversary in our July issue.
