Ladies and gentlemen... Shuggie Otis!

Hats off to Willamette Week and festival producer Trevor Solomon for putting together an impressive roster for this year's MusicFest NW, which runs Sept 3–8. It's a strong mix of proven and reliable talent—Neko Case, Animal Collective, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and Bob Mould—greener headliners such as The Head and the Heart, Young the Giant, and Diplo; local upstarts incuding The Chromatics, Glass Candy, The Helio Sequence, and Typhoon; and even a legendary recluse in Shuggie Otis, the funk and R&B star who hasn't recorded an album since 1974. (Surely you remember "Strawberry Letter 23?")
