The most recognizable song by Chris Issak, far and away, is the singer and guitarist’s breakout hit, “Wicked Game”. The track, off Isaak’s 1989 album Heart Shaped World, gained popularity after David Lynch (a longtime Isaak fan) featured an instrumental version in his film Wild at Heart—but the video (that video!) certainly didn’t hurt. Who could forget it (especially after MTV put it in hot rotation)?: Isaak, in impractical long pants, cavorting on the beach with supermodel Helena Christensen, in various stages of undress…The black-and-white film made it less porn-y, more perfume ad–y!

Isaak may have a signature song, but he’s no one-hit wonder. Since “Wicked Games,” the musician has put out 11 records, including two Christmas albums, two concert albums, and a cover record, 2011’s Beyond the Sun, which paid tribute to the rock ‘n’ roll forebears (Elvis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, etc.) who recorded at Memphis’s storied Sun Studio. Isaak’s also dabbled in acting: He had his own show, The Chris Isaak Show, on Showtime in the early aughts, and has played small parts in such wildly varied fare as Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, That Thing You Do!, and Silence of the Lambs.

Isaak plays the Oregon Zoo August 25, and we’re giving away two tickets. The contest ends Monday, August 19. Considering many will enter for a chance to win, but only one will, maybe this is a wicked thing to do. But what can we say? The world is only gonna break your heart...

This contest is now closed.
