Spring in Portland, rain in the forecast. It can get boring, but it’s generally true. As relief, let’s forget our hyper local focus and dream about a latitude considerably south of us, and halfway across the world, where warm breezes wash over the coastlines of countries hugging the Mediterranean Sea. How do we get there, to those sunny cities? There’s always air travel, but a quicker and cheaper route is via Multnomah Village’s Indigo Traders shop.
The family business specializes in home goods from the Mediterranean region, which stretches from Morocco at the west to Turkey in the east. Those are the two countries from which co-owners Samir and Karla Bean source most of their exotic goods. So let them rack up the frequent flyer miles and you reap the benefits, especially now that they’re in the middle of a major help-us-expand sale.
In business for about ten years, they’ve recently taken over the next-door retail space at their Multnomah Village shop (they have a second shop in Hillsdale). The space just about triples their footprint, all the better to let them expand food, beauty, bath, bedding and other items designed to increase your domestic bliss.
In keeping with relaxed Mediterranean culture, the sale dates and opening day of the expanded space don’t have specific time frame – the sale is ongoing, as they reduce inventoryand slowly move into the new space. The official grand re-opening of the bigger, better Indigo Traders will be sometime this summer.
But the bargains are right now, on a wide selection of all that Indigo Traders carries. For instance, half off on pestemal towels (the famously soft, long-lasting and quick drying Turkish towels) and cotton throws, 75% off on some of the pottery. At the same time, they're bringing in new items like more Moroccan spices, olives, olive oils and vinegers. Even the unusual Argon oil, a nutty-flavored oil that's good as a finishing touch for couscous or pilaf dishes but also as a hair and scalp treatment.
