This spring, the PSU engineering prof began work on a $1.56 million computer modeling research project to predict the Gulf of Mexico’s currents. The results of the study can help scientists predict the dispersion of future oil spills. (Thanks again, BP!) This husband-and-wife team has managed the Minam Lodge in Eagle Cap Wilderness for three years, but this could be their last. At press time, the lodge—the last wilderness resort in Eastern Oregon, accessible only by hike, horse, or plane—was up for auction. We haven’t got the $2.3 million asking price, but we can spring for s’mores.

Pull in the chairs and make room for members of the Wieden & Kennedy team behind Old Spice’s Emmy-nominated Manmercials and the follow-up social media campaign. The viral commercials feature hunky Portland-born actor and former NFL receiver Isaiah Mustafa (The Man Your Man Could Smell Like) answering questions from the likes Alyssa Milano and George Stephanopoulos, and from over 100 fans. In 48 hours, Old Spice’s Twitter following soared from 3,000 to 46,000, and at press time the campaign had racked up 40 million YouTube views. The table might be crowded, but we’ll let the team squeeze in a date—as long as it’s Mustafa!
