The Portland Farmers Market returns to Pioneer Courthouse Square, Ración gets a new bartender, Nonna and DOC shake up their service, and more updates from around Portland
Mi Mero Molé has recently expanded their Chinatown hours and service options. The Mexican restaurant and bar will now be open for both lunch and dinner, Monday through Thursday, 11 am to 9 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 10 pm. The restaurant will also now offer an expanded bar service with cocktails and extensive happy hour options available from 2 pm to 6 pm daily. 32 NW 5th Ave.
Ecotrust and Edible Portland recently hosted their Local Hero Awards, honoring those in the food and beverage industry who support the local food movement. Six award winners were announced, including Nossa Familia Coffee (Beverage Artisan), Sun Gold Farm (Farm), Tabor Bread (Food Artisan), Nonprofit (Portland Fruit tree Project), The Side Yard Farm & Kitchen (Restaurant), and Linnton Feed & Seed (Retailer).
Shaker shakeups to report at Ración! Opening bartender Chauncey Roach will be heading up to Northwest Portland's Fireside to work with longtime bartender Sue Erickson, and Justin Siemer (Punch Bowl Social, Richmond Bar) will take over the modern Spanish restaurant's beverage program. The Portland Farmers Market has returned to Pioneer Courthouse Square with more than 30 hot food vendors, fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers, and live music. The market is open every Monday from 10 am to 2 pm through August 25. 701 SW 6th Ave.
Italian restaurant Nonna has launched an Aperitivo Hour for everyone's pre-dinner food and drink needs. From 5 to 6 pm, the restaurant will give patrons $1 off all pasta dishes as well as happy hour sandwiches. They will also offer drink specials such as $4 vermouth, $5 prosecco, and $6 negroni. 5515 NE 30th Ave.
Next door to Nonna, DOC will transition to a chef’s tasting menu format for the summer. The Italian restaurant will now serve a fixed 6-course menu, offering either parallel courses for a party of two or a family-style meal with multiple dishes for larger parties. The menu will be $60 per person and will be offered between the hours of 6 and 8:30 pm Tuesday through Thursday and for 6 or 8:30 pm seatings on Friday and Saturday. 5519 NE 30th Ave.
Portland’s own Widmer Brewing and Breakside Brewing have released the latest collaboration as part of Widmer’s Collaboration Series. The Saison A Fleurs is a farmhouse-style ale brewed with chrysanthemum, jasmine, and Szechuan peppercorn. Light in body, with a floral aroma and spicy finish, it’s a beer meant for Portland’s June. “It was a lot of fun to us to re-work and dial in this beer through several 'draft' versions. In each brew session, brewers from both of the breweries were on hand hard at work,” said head brewer for Breakside Brewing Ben Edmunds. The Saison A Fleurs has gone on to win a gold medal at North American Beer Awards, the third largest beer competition in the United States.
