Do This Now: September
Our picks for your calendar this month, from Mount Angel’s Oktoberfest to the Rose City Comic Con.
September means, yes, Oktoberfest! Wet your whistle at Mount Angel’s Oktoberfest (Sept 12–15), the state’s oldest and largest incarnation of the annual Munich harvest celebration. At Widmer Brothers’ ninth annual Oktoberfest (Sept 6–7) ales and sausages will flow during two full days of live music. Kids? Check out Oaks Park’s annual all-ages Oktoberfest (Sept 20–22).
All that carbo-loading will do you good at the Portland Triathlon (Sept 22) as you swim upstream in the Willamette, bike out of Cathedral Park, and run back and forth across the St. Johns Bridge. Hearty Oregonians also have a chance to swim across the “refreshing” Columbia at the 71st annual Roy Webster Cross-Channel Swim (Sept 2). Head out with thousands of “doggerrific” bikers on the Tour de Lab, a 19- or 40-mile loop hitting the brewery’s outposts scattered across the city (Sept 8).
Giggle with Portlandia’s Fred Armisen at the Crystal Ballroom (Sept 5). With the arrival of MusicfestNW, don’t forget its little sister, TechfestNW, a jam-packed three-day festival at OMSI (Sept 6–8). See your favorite comic book or sci-fi superstars at Rose City Comic Con (Sept 21–22) and welcome the official start of fall at OMSI’s Autumnal Equinox Celebration star party (Sept 21).
