El Cubo de Cuba update: The SE Hawthorne brick-and-mortar location of downtown food cart El Cubo de Cuba is slated for a mid-July opening, and we've got this update from owner Emily Roskam: "Our menu will be almost the same as at the cart—small and good. We believe that a complicated menu leads to more waste, and less perfection. We will be an order-at-the-counter and take-a-number spot... so nothing fancy. We will be adding an avocado salad (that we just don't have refrigeration room for at the cart) and some rum drinks along with beer and wine. Choose your own pasta adventure: Tammy Hobrecht's casual counter-service eatery Pasta Allegro is now open in the former Carpaccio/Belly/Terroir space on the corner of NE Fremont and MLK. The menu offers mix-and-match pasta and pizza options from 11 am to 8 pm, Tuesday through Thursday; 11 am to 11 pm, Friday and Saturday; and 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday. 3500 NE MLK Jr. Blvd
Neighborhood support: According to the Oregonian, Maath Hamed, Tiffany Sahib, and Ghaith Sahib's Dar Salam restaurant on NE Alberta sustained significant fire damage this week. Grassa means fat: Rick Gencarelli (of Lardo fame) will debut his hotly anticipated fresh pasta restaurant Grassa on June 11 in the small space between Gencarelli's downtown Lardo location and Anthony Cafiero's Racion in the turbine-topped Twelve West building on SW Washington. New downtown lunch option: Eater PDX reports that a new Mexican restaurant, Prehispanica Mexican Cuisine, is now open in the former Element Restaurant and Lounge space, serving lunch dishes like braised lengua en estofado and grilled pescado in achiote, and dinner entrees like Veracruz-style sauteed rockfish and chicken with Oaxacan mole. 1135 SW Morrison St
Barbecues, brews, and booze: BJ Smith, chef/owner at Smokehouse 21, debuted the BBQ joint's first-ever bar menu this weekend, including a small but comprehensive liquor list with an emphasis on bourbon and rye and house-infused cocktails. 413 NW 21st Avenue

Hood River shake-ups: Double Mountain brewery co-founder Charlie Devereux will leave Hood River to cut his commute and start the next era of his craft beer career closer to his Portland home. Brewpublic reports co-owner Matt Swihart purchased Devereux’s interest in the company and plans to continue the bottled distribution of its top brews: Kölsch, Vaporizer, India Red Ale, and Hop Lava.
Mosel movie: Former Portland wine maven and Riesling fanatic Jessica Pierce (a member of the blind tasting panel for our 2011 50 Best Wines of Oregon feature) has launched a Kickstarter campaign to produce a documentary film on the globalization of Germany's historical wine producing Mosel Valley.
