Revamp & Reinvigorate Your House
Local design-build firm Vanillawood transformed a traditional home with new furnishings, color, and wallpaper.
Sometimes, a little motivation and a lot of expertise is what it takes to remodel, or simply, re-vamp your home. Vanillawood, a husband and wife design firm, does it all, from the ground up to a quick sprucing. Depending on your budget (they work with a range), they’ll create the lifestyle and look your home is calling for. Kricken Yaker, head interiors person, brings together elements of nature and modern decorative elements with a dazzling Kelly Wearstler touch. Rooming together, you’ll find birch tree branches, vintage starlight chandeliers, silver-leafed end tables, glitzy ceramics, and gorgeous wood slab tables. Her style is eclectic and fearless.
Stephanie and John Knight recently hired Yaker to help accessorize the main living areas in their SW home. "It started with me looking for a sideboard for my dining room and turned into a complete re-do of the dining and living room," giggles Stephanie, "She thought there was too much beige in the living room and she was right." The yellow, turqoise, and magenta accented rooms are a great example of turning a quiet traditional ground floor into a contemporary and glamourous living space.
Once the Knights agreed to hire Vanillawood to redo the two rooms, they were shown different color schemes and furnishings. Stephanie incorporated some of her favorite personal objects into the mix, such as the andiron owls her hobbyist blacksmith grandfather made, along with the blue lamp her parents bought at Sears for $25 when she was a little girl. The dining room chandelier was purchased by the Knights when they moved into their home a few years ago. They were happy it got to stay and are very pleased with the silvery blue grasscloth on the walls and fresh white accents that Yacker added. The living room seemed to grow in size by creating two seating areas. The Moroccan leather poufs bring a softness to the geometry of the sofa and armchairs. Now, the downstairs is something a bit less quiet, a bit more upscale, yet still cozy and comfortable. And, after all was said and done, the Knights decided, "It’s time to do the kitchen next."
Vanillawood is located in the Pearl and also sells an assortment of accessories and furnishings for the home.
