Plastic not so Fantastic
Ban the Bag Coalition declares a Day of Action in Portland
Quick question: How do you feel about plastic grocery bags? If you answered something along the lines of the notion that they were created by BP Executives—who themselves are the spawn of the devil—to loot money from babies’ piggy banks; man, do I have an event for you.
Today at noon, a union of heavyweight greenies such as the Audubon Society, Willamette Riverkeepers, and Surfrider Foundation are holding a rally at City Hall to speak out against the pestilence brought on by these plasticized demons. Their goal? To effectively get the dirty things banished from Portland altogether by pushing for a 20-cent fee on single use plastic bags within the city.
Pardon the pun, but if that sounds like your bag, then make haste and get yourself down to the steps of City Hall to back up the Ban the Bag Coalition. Guest speakers, and musical performances will be on hand to help enliven the gathering. Just to make sure you know exactly who the enemy is, there will even be an appearance from the “Bag Monster.”
To help raise your hackles before the rally, check out this video from Surfrider:
Can’t make it downtown by lunch? No sweat. Reroute your happy hour plans to the Keen Headquarters tonight at 6:00 p.m. for a Ban the Bag fundraiser featuring Surfrider and Ninkasi pint glasses for sale, and, oh yeah, Ninkasi beer on tap—now, that’s my kind of bag, baby.
